Tata-owned BigBasket CEO Hari Menon to step down; Amazon veteran Amit Nanda to take over

BigBasket co-founder Hari Menon is stepping down as chief executive officer of the Tata-owned online grocery platform, which has named former Amazon executive Amit Nanda as its new CEO.

The leadership change was announced on June 16, 2026. Menon and fellow co-founder Vipul Parekh will continue on the company's board and will mentor the new leadership team, according to a Moneycontrol report and statements carried by multiple business outlets.

Who is Amit Nanda?

Nanda joins BigBasket from Amazon, where he spent more than 11 years and most recently served as Director of Selling Partner Services, overseeing India's third-party marketplace ecosystem. During his tenure at the e-commerce giant he held multiple roles across marketplace operations, product management, technology and private brands.

He brings over two decades of experience spanning e-commerce, consumer goods and consumer banking, having earlier held leadership positions at Hindustan Unilever and Citibank. An alumnus of Delhi College of Engineering, Nanda holds a postgraduate management degree from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad.

"Incredibly excited to join bigbasket and build upon the phenomenal trust it has established with millions of consumers," Nanda said.

Founders stay on to mentor

Menon, who led BigBasket through its growth into one of India's largest online grocers and its acquisition by the Tata Group, will remain associated with the company through its board. Co-founder Vipul Parekh also continues on the board, providing continuity as the new leadership takes charge.

In a related move, Seshu Kumar Tirumala, who joined BigBasket in 2014, has been elevated to Chief Operating Officer.

Focus on quick commerce

BigBasket operates as a subsidiary of Tata Digital, the group's digital arm led by Sajith Sivanandan. Under Nanda, the company is expected to sharpen its push into quick commerce, expand its private-label portfolio and strengthen its marketplace ecosystem as competition in India's online grocery and rapid-delivery market intensifies.
