The Group of Seven leaders convened in Evian, France, for their annual summit, with the newly announced US-Iran ceasefire overshadowing European efforts to keep Ukraine at the top of the agenda.
Iran takes centre stage
President Trump devoted much of his attention to the aftermath of the three-and-a-half-month conflict with Iran and the ceasefire affecting the Strait of Hormuz. Host President Emmanuel Macron, along with other European leaders, sought to redirect focus toward Russia's war in Ukraine.
Diplomacy on the sidelines
Trump held one-on-one talks with the Emir of Qatar and met the UAE's president. Although Gulf nations are not G7 members, Macron extended invitations to several leaders to join parts of the summit, underscoring how Middle East diplomacy has reshaped the gathering.
