Opinion: Americans want a fast end to the Iran war — and they're right

Opinion: Americans want a fast end to the Iran war — and they're right

Public opinion has rarely been clearer: 68% of Americans say the United States should make a deal to end the war in Iran as quickly as possible, according to Economist/YouGov polling.

The costs are real

The war has rattled energy markets, threatened the Strait of Hormuz and weighed on global growth. At home, it has dented confidence in the economy. Abroad, it has deepened Iran's economic collapse and cost-of-living crisis.

A window to act

The newly announced ceasefire framework offers a path to de-escalation. Translating public sentiment into a durable agreement — one that reopens shipping lanes and lowers the temperature — would serve both American interests and global stability. The hard work of verification and diplomacy now begins.
