Tesla's sales in China rebounded sharply in May, with deliveries of its China-made electric vehicles jumping nearly 40% as the world's largest auto market recovered.
A welcome rebound
The gain offers relief for Tesla, which has faced pressure on demand, recalls and fierce competition from BYD and other Chinese automakers. Tesla's EV deliveries only recently returned to growth after shrinking in 2024 and early 2025.
Beyond cars
Investors are increasingly focused on Tesla's next bets — the Cybercab robotaxi and the Optimus humanoid robot — which the company argues could eventually dwarf its vehicle business. For now, steady execution in key markets like China remains crucial.
